Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar announced that shale oil exploration work has begun in Diyarbakır. Pointing out that large oil reserves may be found in the region, Bayraktar said that if the work is successful, a game-changing development could take place for Türkiye. Bayraktar also stated that oil traces were encountered at the Akçabeyli well in the Black Sea and announced that new drilling work is continuing.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar made important statements regarding Turkey's oil and natural gas exploration activities. Noting that daily oil production at Gabar Mountain in Şırnak has reached 84 thousand barrels, Bayraktar announced that new discoveries have been made in Adıyaman and that production is targeted to increase by 50 percent. Saying that significant reserves are about to be discovered west of Gabar as well, Bayraktar stated that natural gas production in the Black Sea will be increased to 45 million cubic meters per day in 2028.
NEW OIL DISCOVERIES IN ADIYAMAN Attending the Başkent Kulisi program broadcast on Kanal 7, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar explained Turkey's new targets in the energy field.
Noting that oil production in Adıyaman had at one point fallen below 10 thousand barrels per day, Bayraktar said they had taken action to increase production again with new discoveries made in the region.
Minister Bayraktar announced that thanks to new work, daily oil production in Adıyaman is targeted to be increased by approximately 50 percent to a level of 14-15 thousand barrels.
NEW RESERVE EXCITEMENT WEST OF GABAR Also touching on the oil exploration and production activities carried out at Gabar Mountain in Şırnak, Bayraktar reported that daily production in the region has reached 84 thousand barrels.
Noting that new reserves are also being investigated while production continues in existing fields, Bayraktar said that work west of Gabar is promising.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar Bayraktar used the following statements: “The figures and work currently visible show us a potential there that, God willing, can take Gabar above 100 thousand barrels. We are currently about to discover important reserves west of Gabar.”
STRIKING WORDS ABOUT WORK IN DIYARBAKIR Explaining that shale oil and shale gas exploration work is continuing in Batman and Diyarbakır, Bayraktar stated that they expect important results from the project carried out with the horizontal drilling method.
Noting that a 24-well program is planned until 2028, Bayraktar said that especially the work in Diyarbakır could open the door to a new era in Turkey's oil production.
Bayraktar said, “If that succeeds, if we succeed there, God willing, it could be one of the works that could have a game-changing effect on Turkey in the oil industry. That is, just as the 2020 Sakarya Gas Field discovery was a very historic and important discovery, this work in Diyarbakır is at least as important as that.”
NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION IN THE BLACK SEA WILL DOUBLE Noting that the first phase has been completed at the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea and that approximately 9.5-10 million cubic meters of natural gas is produced daily, Bayraktar explained that this production meets the needs of 4 million households.
Stating that within the scope of the second phase, production will be increased to 20 million cubic meters per day with a giant platform to be installed offshore, Bayraktar said that starting in 2027, approximately 3.5 billion dollars of annual natural gas imports will be prevented.
IN 2028, THREE OUT OF EVERY FOUR HOUSEHOLDS WILL USE DOMESTIC GAS Noting that the second floating production platform is planned to reach Turkey in the first quarter of 2028, Bayraktar reported that with this platform, 25 million cubic meters more will be added to daily production.
Saying that thus total natural gas production in the Black Sea will reach 45 million cubic meters per day, Bayraktar stated that in 2028 the target is for three out of every four households in Turkey to use domestic natural gas.
TARGET IN OIL: 1 MILLION BARRELS Noting that Turkey's total oil and natural gas production has reached approximately 300 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, Bayraktar said that this amount is expected to rise to 550 thousand barrels by 2028.
Bayraktar explained that their targets after 2028 are to raise Turkish Petroleum's daily production to the level of 1 million barrels of oil equivalent.
