A decoration made for Halloween in Glens Falls, a city in the US state of New York, caused lively moments in the city. The hyper-realistic flame simulation prepared by two neighbors who wanted to make their houses look as if they were on fire led to fire panic in the neighborhood.
HYPER-REALISTIC DECORATION SCARED NEIGHBORS
Passersby and area residents, seeing the red-orange lights and smoke rising from the windows, thought the house was really engulfed in flames. Citizens who saw the setup prepared with special LED lights, fabrics, and fog machines placed behind the windows immediately called 911 and reported a fire.
FIRE DEPARTMENT TEAMS INTERVENED AT THE SCENE
Upon the report, Glens Falls Fire Department and police teams were dispatched to the address in a short time with sirens wailing. Unable to hide their surprise at the scene they encountered when they arrived in front of the house, firefighters determined that there was no fire and that the flames they saw were nothing but a tremendous visual effect prepared for Halloween.
The amusing dialogues between the fire crews and the homeowners and the moments of panic on the street were captured second by second by the mobile phone cameras of nearby citizens. The teams congratulated the homeowners on the skill of the decoration and then left the scene.
