In Antalya, a person with psychological problems locked himself in his room after arguing with his mother over a remote control. While he was inside, he set the room on fire and was saved from being burned alive at the last moment by the fire department's intervention. His mother, who was assaulted by her son and whose house was attempted to be set on fire, asked authorities for help to treat her son.

Batuhan M.D., who was living in an apartment in the Teomanpaşa neighborhood of Antalya's Kepez district and was known to have psychological issues, locked himself in a room after an argument with his mother, İkbal Kaçar.

WHEN POLICE ARRIVED, HE PLACED THE CABINET BEHIND THE DOOR

After the 27-year-old's mother called the 112 Emergency Call Center for help, police teams were dispatched to the address. As the arriving teams tried to persuade the young man to leave the room, Batuhan M.D. pushed the cabinet in the room where he had locked himself behind the door to prevent the teams from entering.

HE SET THE ROOM WHERE HE LOCKED HIMSELF ON FIRE

Shortly after, police teams seeing smoke coming from the room requested fire and medical teams at the address. Meanwhile, apartment residents noticing the smoke coming from the apartment panicked and fled outside. The arriving teams broke down the door and entered the room where the young man was. Firefighters and police teams brought the young man out of the smoke-filled room, and the fire was fully extinguished after a brief intervention. While fire crews were ventilating the smoke from the apartment, the young man, who had locked himself in the room and was affected by the smoke, was taken to the hospital by ambulance after being examined at the scene by medical teams.

"HE WOULD HAVE BURNED TO A CRISP AS WELL"

Apartment residents, who said the young man had experienced a similar incident before, criticized the family and stated they did not want to see Batuhan M.D. Batuhan M.D.'s mother, İkbal Kaçar, stating that her son has psychological issues, said, "He has been undergoing treatment for a long time. He has these kinds of crises occasionally. Yesterday, I asked him for a remote control and called him a few times. When he didn't answer, I raised my voice. He had an attack because 'my mother raised her voice at me.' He imagines things. When I came, he didn't open the door. When I called the police, things escalated. He locked himself in the room. When he lowered the cabinet in front of the door, he couldn't get out either. He had a cigarette in his hand; I don't know if he dropped it or what he did. But he would have burned to a crisp inside if the officers hadn't saved him," she said.

"I GET A RESTRAINING ORDER, BUT HE COMES BACK A FEW DAYS LATER"

Kaçar said that police teams immediately notified the fire department when they noticed the smoke, and added, "Now he is in the hospital. I want these types of children to be hospitalized and not released until they are treated. I have applied to many places but received no support. I asked institutions for help regarding my son, but no one helps. They take him and keep him for a while, then let him go. I get a restraining order, but he comes back a few days later and causes incidents. People who have crises like this need to be hospitalized. They need to be admitted to a psychiatric ward and treated. The neighbors don't want Batuhan. They don't want my son, and they are right. There was another incident before. After that, we said 'it won't happen again.' He also promised, but he didn't keep his word. He will face the consequences, and I am also filing a complaint," she stated.
