The sentence has been determined for the defendants who lost a large amount of money in illegal betting in Siirt and stabbed their neighbor, Gülhan Börülce, a mother of two, to death to take the bracelets from her arm. Şükrü Kaya was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment and 11 years in prison, while his wife Fatma Kaya was acquitted.
A blood-chilling incident occurred in a lodge in the Barış neighborhood of Siirt on December 18, 2025. Relatives of Gülhan Börülce (39), who could not reach her, reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center. Following the report, health and police teams were dispatched to the address. Upon entering the home, the teams determined that Börülce had been stabbed to death. After the autopsy procedures, Gülhan Börülce's body was taken to Ankara and laid to rest.
Murdered Gülhan Börülce MURDERER NEIGHBOR CONFESSED HIS BLOOD-CHILLING PLAN Within the scope of the investigation led by the Siirt Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the upstairs neighbors Şükrü Kaya (33) and his wife Fatma Kaya (30) were taken into custody. In his statement to the police, Şükrü Kaya confessed that he engaged in illegal gambling, lost a large amount of money, and had been planning for a while to kill Gülhan Börülce and steal the bracelets on her arm. Kaya's wife Fatma Kaya did not accept the accusations against her. After the proceedings, the couple was referred to the courthouse and arrested by the court. Meanwhile, the moment Şükrü Kaya cashed the stolen gold at a jeweler was captured on security camera. The footage shows Kaya handing the stolen bracelets to the jeweler, then checking the money transferred to his account number, signing the sales receipt, and later leaving the store.
DEMAND FOR AGGRAVATED LIFE SENTENCE The indictment prepared regarding the detained defendants, the couple Şükrü and Fatma Kaya, was accepted by the Siirt 1st Heavy Criminal Court. In the indictment, an aggravated life sentence and prison terms of 10 to 15 years each were demanded for the detained defendants Şükrü and his wife Fatma Kaya on charges of 'Premeditated murder of a woman with monstrous intent' and 'Qualified robbery'. Additionally, for Fatma Kaya, a prison sentence of 6 months to 5 years was requested on the charge of 'Destroying, concealing, or altering crime evidence'.

While the lawyers of the parties were present in the courtroom, Gülhan Börülce's family also attended via SEGBIS. During the verdict hearing, Şükrü Kaya accepted the charges against him, while Fatma Kaya denied all accusations. Following the final defenses, the court panel sentenced Şükrü Kaya to aggravated life imprisonment for 'Intentional killing' and 11 years in prison for 'Robbery'. Fatma Kaya was acquitted.
