Corruption allegations raised against Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, sparked debate. It was alleged that Guilfoyle, Donald Trump Jr.'s former fiancée, asked a donor for $100,000 during the Senate confirmation process. While Guilfoyle's lawyer denied the allegations, President Donald Trump only said 'It's a shame' regarding the matter. Vice President JD Vance, meanwhile, emphasized that possible irregularities would have consequences.
The US is reeling from serious corruption allegations against Kimberly Guilfoyle, former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. and US Ambassador to Greece. Guilfoyle, who is alleged to have asked for money in exchange for providing access to officials and conveniences ahead of her Senate confirmation and to have accepted luxury gifts, may be removed from office.
The fact that the scandal erupted during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Athens caused great unease in the White House administration.
ALLEGATION OF $100,000 CREDIT CARD DEBT
Eric Deters, a former Trump donor, claimed that while Guilfoyle was going through the Senate confirmation process, she messaged him asking for $100,000 to pay off her American Express card debt. Deters said he did not send the money because he did not have cash on hand, while Guilfoyle’s lawyer categorically denied the message allegations.
TRUMP BREAKS HIS SILENCE: WHAT A SHAME
Asked about the allegations, US President Donald Trump avoided defending his former daughter-in-law. Trump, who said he had only just heard about the matter, limited himself to saying, “I just heard about this. What a shame. I don’t know much, but she was always very kind.”
His inner circle says Trump is extremely displeased about personal gain being pursued using his name and that it is only a matter of time before he terminates Guilfoyle’s post.
VICE PRESIDENT VANCE: THEY MUST FACE THE CONSEQUENCES
Vice President JD Vance, commenting on the developments, stressed that influence peddling will not be tolerated and said:
“I don’t like anyone selling access to a government official. We’ll see what the facts are. If there is something bad going on, those responsible must face the consequences.”
