A person who illegally obtained spy cameras that can be placed in devices such as pens, electrical outlets, clocks, and garage remotes, and sold them online, recording approximately 55,000 images across Turkey by providing remote access via IP to these devices, was caught and arrested in an operation.

The Karabük Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch teams conducted open-source research and determined that devices referred to as "spy cameras," which are prohibited for sale, were being sold through Karabük. Following technical surveillance and intelligence operations, an operation was carried out against a suspect identified as E.İ., who was determined to be selling these cameras, under the coordination of the Karabük Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

During two separate searches at the suspect's address, 1 hidden camera detector, 12 cameras and audio recording devices disguised as pens, 5 hidden cameras resembling power outlets, 10 USB drives with audio recording devices, 258 cameras and audio devices hidden in keychains, 5 camera devices resembling triple power strips, 2 cameras hidden in Wi-Fi adapters, 1 camera hidden in a chandelier sensor, 1 desk clock, 1 cover of a gas detector, 1 car key, 1 camera hidden in a spot LED lamp, 1 receiver remote control, 1 camera hidden in a digital clock, 2 pen-type and 4 lapel-type cameras, along with 120 electronic circuits used in camera production, 185 motherboard circuits, 175 circuit antennas, 208 cameras, 550 on/off switches, 42 batteries, and numerous smoke detectors, power banks, desk clocks, air fresheners, music boxes, sound bombs, thermometers, lapel buttons, busts and figurines, and calculators were seized.

STORED IMAGES OF PEOPLE WHO PURCHASED THE DEVICES

As a result of the examination of digital materials belonging to the suspect by experts from the Cyber Crime Department, approximately 55 thousand images were reached. It was determined that among these images, there were recordings that violated privacy and contained criminal elements. As a result of technical analyses, it was found that the suspect was remotely connecting to the IP cameras he sold and storing images of the individuals who purchased the devices.

IMAGES OF CHILDREN WERE ALSO FOUND

It was reported that among the seized images, there were inappropriate images of 38 adults and 11 children. Following these developments, the suspect E.İ., against whom an arrest warrant was issued by the Karabük Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was taken into custody.

After his procedures, the suspect, who was referred to the courthouse, was arrested by the court on charges of "violating the privacy of private life," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "obscenity," and was sent to the Karabük Closed Penitentiary Institution.
