Necmettin Direk, living in Van, inspired by the Black Sea region, built a cable car between his house and garden to solve the transportation difficulty to his hilly terrain; thus, he reduced a 40-minute journey to 40 seconds, easily reaching his garden with hundreds of trees for years.
Necmettin Direk (62), who had difficulty going to the land he inherited from his father in Van, was inspired by the Black Sea Region he visited and installed an electric cable car system between his house and his garden on the hill. Bringing a craftsman from Rize to install the system, Direk said, 'When I first set up the system and started using it, everyone was very surprised. Some even asked, "Are you crazy?" But thanks to this system, I can reach a place that would take half an hour or an hour in about 40 seconds.'
Necmettin Direk, a 62-year-old father of 7 living in Van's Kurubaş Neighborhood, inherited 15 decares of land from his father. Wanting to cultivate this hilly, waterless land, Direk struggled for a long time to bring water to the garden. After managing to install the water system in 2008 with great effort, he later faced difficulty accessing his land when the road was closed. This time, inspired by the cable car system he saw during a trip to the Black Sea, Direk decided to install one in his garden. Unable to find a local craftsman in Van, he brought one from Rize to set up the cable car system. Installed in 2009, the electric cable car system reduced a 40-minute journey to 40 seconds, and Necmettin Direk has been growing fruit in his garden for years.
"I INSTALLED THE SYSTEM BETWEEN MY HOUSE AND GARDEN"
Necmettin Direk said, 'My father left me this land, about 15 decares, and it was a waterless hill. Since it was in a very hilly area, bringing water was very difficult. I struggled a lot to get water to the field. Eventually, I managed to bring water to the field. But later, my route to the field was closed by neighbors. So, I decided to implement the cable car system I saw in the Black Sea between my garden and my house. Since there was no one in Van to install this system, I brought a craftsman from Rize at that time. After bringing all the materials, I set up this system between my house and garden.'
"I HAVE 400-500 TREES IN THE GARDEN"
Stating that everyone was very surprised after installing the cable car system, Direk said, 'When I first set up the system and started using it, everyone was very surprised. Some even asked, "Are you crazy?" But thanks to this system, I can reach a place that would take half an hour or an hour in about 40 seconds. I have been using this system to go to my garden for about 17 years now. I have 15 decares of land. I started cultivating it in 2008, and now I have about 400-500 trees, including walnut, hazelnut, pear, apricot, plum, and almond trees.'
