Mithat Taha Turan, a 41-year-old accountant who fell ill after leaving his home in Kağıthane, was taken to the hospital after neighbors reported him sitting in front of a building, but he could not be saved. The owner of the market he entered to buy water said that he understood from Turan's face that he was unwell and told him to go to a doctor, but Turan refused, saying, "The air conditioning hit me." Turan's final moments in the market were captured on security camera.
A 41-year-old accountant living alone in Kağıthane fell ill shortly after leaving his home and died. The market owner whom Turan last spoke to said he regretted not taking him to the hospital.
HE BOUGHT WATER FROM THE MARKET AND SAT IN FRONT OF A BUILDING
Mithat Taha Turan left his home in Yeşilce Neighborhood around 17:00 on Monday, July 27, and entered a market in the neighborhood to buy water. Turan, who told the market owner that he was unwell, left the market after a while. Local residents who saw Turan become ill and sit in front of a building reported the situation to medical teams.
HE WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER CPR
Medical teams arriving at the scene performed initial CPR on Turan. It was learned that Turan, who was taken by ambulance to Seyrantepe Hamidiye Etfal Training and Research Hospital, had a pulse for a while during the intervention. Turan could not be saved despite all the doctors' interventions.
THE MOMENTS HE CLUTCHED HIS HEART WERE CAUGHT ON CAMERA
Turan's final moments at the market were captured by security camera. The footage shows moments of Turan arriving at the market, buying water, clutching his heart, and talking with the market owner. The moments when Turan staggered as he walked after leaving the market were also captured on camera.
“THE AIR CONDITIONER GOT ME,” HE SAID
İsmail Çınar, the owner of the market where Turan regularly shopped, said he understood from the sweat on Turan's face that he was unwell, and said the following:
“He said, ‘The air conditioner got me. The air conditioner got me at home.’ I said, ‘Let’s go to the doctor,’ and he said, ‘No need, it will pass.’ After that, that was the last I saw of him.”
“I WISH I HAD TAKEN HIM TO THE HOSPITAL”
Çınar, who said Turan had difficulty even picking up the 5-liter water, said: “Normally, he used to grab it, pull it, throw it over his shoulder, and go; but I felt that he was unwell. It would have been better if I had taken him. I regret it. I have been eating myself up since morning. I am so sorry that I even told my wife. I wish I had taken him to the hospital; I am very regretful.”
THE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH WILL BE DETERMINED BY AUTOPSY
The possibility that Turan, who lived alone and had no known health problems, may have suffered a heart attack is being considered. After the work of the public prosecutor and crime scene investigation teams, Turan's body was taken to the Morgue of the Council of Forensic Medicine to determine the exact cause of death. An investigation into the death has been launched.
