Süheyla Altmışdört, who was also the teacher of famous names such as Bülent Ersoy, Ahmet Özhan, and Coşkun Sabah, was born in 1926 in Trabzon.
Completing her primary and secondary education in Trabzon, the artist moved to Istanbul in 1948. She graduated from the Turkish Music department of the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory in 1954. Altmışdört, who received education from Münir Nurettin Selçuk, Fulya Akaydın, Şefik Gürmeriç, and Mesud Cemil, began teaching after graduating from the conservatory.
Altmışdört taught in the fields of Turkish folk music and classical Turkish music and served as a choir director, starting from 1963, she worked with and directed the Istanbul University Classical Turkish Music Choir (University Choir) and gave numerous concerts with the university choir.
The artist also played a pioneering role in the establishment of conservatories throughout Turkey. A master artist who gave radio concerts at Istanbul Radio for many years, in 2005, she handed over her position in the University Choir, which she had held for 42 years, to Elif Ahıs.
