A man working as a driver in Istanbul was engulfed in flames when his vehicle's battery exploded while he was out of town. The driver, who experienced horror when the spray paints in the vehicle also exploded, recounted, "We went over a speed bump, and the vehicle started to catch fire. There were spray paints inside the vehicle, and they suddenly started spraying. There were explosions like bombs; I threw myself out of the car and barely escaped."
The man living in Istanbul, who works as a driver, was allegedly caught in flames when the battery in the vehicle he went out of town in for work on September 15 exploded. An ambulance was immediately called to the scene, and the man, who was taken to the hospital, was brought after his treatments to Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital, which houses one of Europe's largest centers. It was determined that the patient, who was cared for by the Head of the Burn Treatment Center, General Surgery Specialist Prof. Dr. Mustafa Turan and his team, had burns at a rate of 25 percent, including on his face, arms, and body. The patient, who described what he had experienced, was discharged after his treatment. Prof. Dr. Turan also gave important warnings to citizens while providing information about the treatment.
"THERE WERE EXPLOSIONS LIKE A BOMB"
The man describing what happened said, "I ended up like this because the battery exploded inside the vehicle. It happened on the morning of September 15, we went over a speed bump, and then the vehicle started to catch fire. There were spray paints in the vehicle, and they suddenly started spraying. I tried to get out of the vehicle. There were explosions like a bomb; I threw myself out of the car, I barely escaped."
"25 PERCENT SECOND- AND THIRD-DEGREE BURNS"
Prof. Dr. Mustafa Turan, giving information about his patient's condition, said, "He came with burns after a battery explosion and then the chemicals inside the vehicle catching fire. He has undergone 2 surgeries so far, and his treatments continue. There are second- and third-degree burn areas at a rate of 25 percent. The most important thing is that car maintenance must be done very frequently to prevent this kind of incidents; especially in hot weather, lighters left exposed inside a vehicle can turn into a bomb. Sprays, deodorant scents."
"THINGS THAT SEEM INNOCENT CAN SUDDENLY TURN INTO SITUATIONS THAT CAN KILL"
Turan, who gave information about first aid, recommended that the burned area first be held under tap water for 15-20 minutes to reduce the energy in the area. Turan, stating that afterward one should apply to a healthcare institution, said, "In cases of explosion, the energy in that area should be absorbed with tap water, and we need to move away from the chemicals on us. In our lives, things that seem innocent can suddenly turn into situations that can kill us or leave us disabled. Natural gas leaks inside the home, exposed cables. Let us pay great attention to these in our lives."
