After the attack by the Houthis in Yemen on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, which killed 12 people and injured 309, Saudi Arabia launched an air campaign on Yemen. Explosions occurred in many areas, especially in the capital Sanaa, and casualties were reported in some locations. While the number of dead and wounded in Sanaa has not yet been clarified, mutual attacks increased tension in the region.

Escalating clashes between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen have moved to a new level after the deadly attack on the airport in Riyadh. The Saudi-led coalition said civilians and airport workers were targeted and vowed to respond to the attack.

EXPLOSIONS IN THE CAPITAL, SANAA

Al-Masirah TV, affiliated with the Houthis in Yemen, reported that Saudi Arabia carried out airstrikes and missile attacks on various parts of the country.

The reports said that, in addition to the international airport in the capital Sanaa, the area around the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and northern provinces were also targeted.

While reports emerged of explosions in Sanaa, it was reported that six airstrikes were carried out on the Majz district of Saada Province in the north of the country and one on the city of Saada. It was also reported that the Nakil al-Zerbi area in the Hayfan district of Taiz Province was hit.

12 KILLED, 309 INJURED IN RIYADH ATTACK

The development that escalated the clashes was the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10. The General Authority of Civil Aviation of Saudi Arabia announced that 12 people lost their lives and 309 people were injured in the attack.

It was stated that four of those who lost their lives were Saudi citizens and eight were foreign nationals. Among the dead foreigners were two Bangladeshis and citizens of the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, and Sudan.

After the attack, flights at the airport were temporarily halted, and some flights were canceled or redirected to other airports.

RETALIATION MESSAGE FROM SAUDI ARABIA

Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki described the attack on the passenger terminal of Riyadh Airport as a war crime.

Al-Maliki announced that attacks targeting civilians would be met with a firm response within the framework of international humanitarian law.

The Houthis' military spokesman, Yahya Saree, repeated the warning that airports and airspace in Saudi Arabia could be targeted. Saree excluded the airspace over Mecca and Medina from this warning.

CASUALTIES REPORTED IN YEMEN

Health officials affiliated with the Houthis reported that three people were killed in attacks on workplaces in the Al-Shamaytin area of Taiz Province.

However, initial claims that many people were killed and injured in the latest bombardment in Sanaa have not yet been verified by independent sources. No definitive casualty toll has been announced for the attacks in the capital.

WARNING FROM THE UNITED NATIONS

United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg condemned the attack on the airport in Riyadh, stating that targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure threatens regional security. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also called for an immediate halt to the attacks.
