Following the high temperature warnings issued by the Meteorology days in advance, thermometers in Antalya showed 44 degrees. With sea water temperature reaching 30 degrees, domestic and foreign tourists and citizens flocked to Konyaaltı Beach to cool off.
TEMPERATURE HITS THE CEILING
According to data from the Regional Directorate of Meteorology, the air temperature in Antalya city center was measured at 41 degrees, while thermometers showed 44 degrees. The sea water temperature reached 30 degrees, and the humidity rate was recorded at 18 percent.
EXPERTS WARN
Domestic and foreign tourists as well as city residents turned the high temperature into an opportunity, creating a crowd at Konyaaltı Beach to cool off. While some tried to protect themselves from the hot weather by entering the cool waters of the Mediterranean, others spent time in the shade of umbrellas. Some citizens at the beach preferred to cool off by jumping into the sea from the cliffs. The activity at the beach drew attention during the midday hours, while experts reminded that one should not stay under the sun for long periods, especially during the hours when the sun's rays are most direct.
"EVEN THOUGH IT'S HOT, IT'S WORTH IT"
Fatma Çürük, who came to Antalya for a holiday from İskenderun district of Hatay, drew attention to the beauty of the city despite the hot weather, saying, "Antalya is very beautiful. Even though it's hot, it's worth it. We come from Hatay, and it's very hot there too. We thought we'd take a little walk today, but the heat really affected us." Her husband Adem Çürük stated, "Antalya is indispensable for us. The temperature has been quite high for two days, but despite everything, it's a city worth seeing."
MEASURES FROM THE MUNICIPALITY
On the day when intense temperature warnings were issued, Konyaaltı Mayor Cem Kotan also shared the measures he took on his social media account. Kotan announced that municipal employees working in the field would be given rest between 11:00 and 15:00 due to the extreme heat.
