THEY RIPPED UP A $100 MILLION CONTRACT
Ford stated that Ontario would not cooperate with those who would harm the economy, announcing that they would "rip up" the $100 million contract signed with SpaceX, owned by American billionaire Elon Musk, for the satellite internet system Starlink in November 2024.
"THE SOLE CULPRIT IS TRUMP"
Ford emphasized that American companies would be banned from participating in provincial tenders in Ontario, pointing to U.S. President Donald Trump as the "sole culprit" for the new revenue loss in American companies. Ford stated, "Canada did not start this fight with the U.S., but you would do well to believe that we are ready to win."
WHAT HAPPENED?
The U.S. administration announced that a 25% additional tariff would be imposed on goods imported from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% tariff on imports from China. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated that as a retaliation, a 25% tariff would be applied to $155 billion worth of imports from the U.S., with these tariffs coming into effect on Tuesday for goods worth $30 billion and within 21 days for goods worth $125 billion.
