In La Liga, referees will give interviews to television after two predetermined matches each week. The practice, aimed at making decisions more transparent, will begin today.
Spain's La Liga has signed a historic decision to increase transparency regarding controversial decisions in football public opinion and improve referees' working conditions.
REFEREES WILL GIVE INTERVIEWS AFTER MATCHES
With the practice introduced under the new collective bargaining agreement, referees will now give interviews to television channels after matches.
HOW WILL THE SYSTEM WORK?
Under the new regulation, the referee of two matches predetermined each week will appear before the camera immediately after the match to evaluate their decisions and controversial incidents. These interviews, to be broadcast via La Liga's official broadcasters DAZN and Movistar, aim to prevent misinformation and establish direct communication with the public.
FIRST IMPLEMENTATION TODAY
The first match in which referees will go on live broadcast after the match will be today's clash between Levante and Atletico Madrid. On Sunday, the referee of the exciting Basque derby between Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad will make assessments after the final whistle.
500 THOUSAND EURO INCENTIVE POOL
Financial support will also be provided to referees to encourage the practice. A bonus pool totaling 500 thousand euros (approximately 557 thousand 500 dollars) has been created to be distributed among the referees who participate in the interviews.
