A discovery made by a woman in Spain’s Galicia region while organizing items left by her mother has led to a mysterious investigation stretching back years. The woman, who found the lifeless body of a newborn baby in a deep freezer in the garage, reported the situation to the police. During initial examinations, it was assessed that the baby may have died more than 20 years ago, and an investigation was launched to determine the baby's identity and the circumstances of death.

The horrifying incident that emerged in the Ourense region in northwestern Spain made national headlines. After her mother's death, a woman organizing items in the house opened a deep freezer located in a storage room in the garage and came face to face with the lifeless body of a newborn baby. While initial forensic examinations indicated that the baby may have died more than 20 years ago, police launched a large-scale investigation to shed light on the incident.

HORRIFYING DISCOVERY WHILE CLEANING HER MOTHER'S HOUSE

The incident occurred in the town of Allariz in the province of Ourense, part of Spain's autonomous region of Galicia. According to a report by La Región in the Spanish press, a woman checking the belongings and sections of the house of her mother, who had recently died, entered a storage room in the garage on the ground floor of the building.

Opening the deep freezer in the storage room, the woman found the lifeless body of a newborn baby inside. Following the report, the Spanish Civil Guard (Guardia Civil) launched an investigation.

IT IS BEING ASSESSED THAT THE BABY MAY HAVE DIED MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO

The first findings from forensic examinations indicated that the baby was born at 32-34 weeks in the womb. It was also stated that there were findings indicating the baby breathed after birth.

According to initial forensic estimates, more than 20 years may have passed since the baby's death. The exact cause of death will be determined after an autopsy and examinations by the Galician Institute of Legal Medicine.

DNA SAMPLES SENT TO MADRID

The teams conducting the investigation took action to determine the baby's identity and biological parents. Within this scope, DNA samples were taken and sent to a laboratory in Madrid. In addition, statements were taken from some individuals who may be connected to the incident.

THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE LIFELESS BODY MAY HAVE BEEN BROUGHT FROM ELSEWHERE

One of the possibilities focused on in the investigation is that the deep freezer containing the baby may have been moved from another location. Initial findings indicate that the baby's death may have occurred outside Allariz, at another location in the province of Ourense.

Authorities are investigating whether the baby was born alive and whether the death occurred due to deliberate intervention, neglect, or lack of postnatal care.

Because the statute of limitations for crimes against life in Spain is 20 years, it is noted that the long time elapsed since the incident may also affect the possible legal process.

The investigation is ongoing.
