Huge discount calculated on gasoline! Vehicle owners won't see it

Huge discount calculated on gasoline! Vehicle owners won't see it

06.08.2026 10:41

With the decline in oil prices in global markets, a reduction of 4 lira 35 kurus per liter was calculated for gasoline. However, since the entire reduction will be transferred to the special consumption tax under the sliding scale system, there will be no change in pump prices.

In global energy markets, renewed hopes of a deal between the United States and Iran have pushed oil prices down, and a discount on gasoline appears imminent.

THE FULL DISCOUNT GOES TO TAX, NO CHANGE AT THE PUMP

According to calculations by industry sources, a discount of 4 lira 35 kurus per liter of gasoline is expected to take effect as of 00:01 on Friday, August 7. A change in the operation of the equalization system, made by a presidential decree in July, prevents this discount from being passed directly to consumers.

Under the relevant decree, between August 1 and September 30, the Special Consumption Tax (SCT) will be increased by the full amount of any reductions in domestic refinery prices. Under this rule, the decline in international markets will boost tax revenue, but fuel station price boards will remain unchanged.

US-IRAN CONTACTS DROP OIL PRICES

Behind this decline in oil prices lies progress on a sea route through the Strait of Hormuz between Iran and Oman, and expectations that this could pave the way for a comprehensive US-Iran agreement.

In transactions on August 6, the price of Brent crude fell by 33 cents to $79.12 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate crude declined by 42 cents to $74.80. The possibility of the Strait of Hormuz being safely reopened to maritime traffic has reduced concerns about global oil supply, though the fact that a deal has not yet been finalized suggests volatility may persist in the markets.

A SIMILAR SCENARIO OCCURRED WITH DIESEL

This expected development in gasoline prices comes right after two major discounts calculated consecutively in the diesel category. As may be recalled, a discount of 6 lira 37 kurus was first calculated for diesel, of which only 1 lira 5 kurus was reflected at the pump. Then, the full amount of the second discount of 3 lira 97 kurus was transferred to the SCT. As a result, of the total decline of 10 lira 34 kurus calculated for diesel over two days, only 1 lira 5 kurus reached consumers.
