Following the interpretation of Selahattin Demirtaş's reported words, "I want to take a post in Ankara," used during his prison meeting, as a request for a position from the government, statements came one after another. Kani Torun, who conveyed Demirtaş's words, made a new statement saying that Demirtaş's intention meant "aspiring to govern the country."
Following the different interpretations of former HDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş's statements, "I want to take a post in Ankara," who has been detained in Edirne for about 10 years, statements came one after another. Independent Deputy Kani Torun and Journalist Cansu Çamlıbel emphasized that these statements were taken out of context, underlining that what was actually meant was "aspiring to govern the country."
"THE TWO ARE VERY DIFFERENT THINGS"
Independent Deputy Kani Torun, who recently held a meeting with Selahattin Demirtaş in prison, had stated in an interview with T24 columnist Cansu Çamlıbel that Demirtaş said, "I want to take a post in Ankara." After these words were interpreted on social media as "expecting a post or position from the government," Torun made a correction. Stating that the statements were distorted, Torun emphasized that Demirtaş explicitly "aspires to govern the country" and expressed that expecting a post from the government and aspiring to govern the country are completely different situations.

Following the debates, a statement also came from journalist Cansu Çamlıbel, who conducted the interview. In her evaluation on her social media account, Çamlıbel stated that she understood from Kani Torun's words that Demirtaş did not expect a post from the government but aspired to govern the state.
Çamlıbel reminded that in the flow of the interview, to clarify this situation, she asked a follow-up question: "There is a rumor that Selahattin Demirtaş wants to be a presidential candidate in the next election. Has it reached your ears?" Çamlıbel noted that Torun replied that they had not specifically discussed this issue with Demirtaş, and put an end to the debates by emphasizing that aspiring to govern the state and requesting a post from the current government are completely different things.
