A private healthcare facility in Elazığ that transported medical waste in violation of regulations and burned it in the open on its own property has been fined 47,206,354 Turkish Lira.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change; following a notification from the Elazığ Municipality, teams from the Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change conducted an inspection. During the coordinated inspection with municipal technical personnel and Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams, it was determined that medical waste originating from hospital activities was being transported irregularly and the business owner attempted to incinerate and dispose of it on his own property.

In the examinations conducted by the ministry teams, it was reported that the open burning of medical waste, which poses a risk to human health, creates a serious danger in terms of the spread of infectious diseases and will cause irreparable consequences on the environment. It was revealed that the hospital had similarly burned medical waste in previous years and had previously been penalized by the Provincial Directorate. An administrative fine of 47,206,354 TL was imposed on the private hospital in question, applying Article 20 of the Environmental Law.
