In January 2024, the case against singer İlyas Yalçıntaş, who was accused of sending insulting messages to Mahsa H., an Iranian national, via a messaging application, was concluded. The hearing at the Istanbul Criminal Court of First Instance was attended by the lawyers of both parties.
"WE REQUEST HIS PUNISHMENT"
The complainant's lawyer, Ali Kemal Atçeken, stated in his remarks on the merits, "The defendant İlyas Yalçıntaş should serve as an example to society due to his status as a public figure. This incident is not just a case of insult; it reflects the level of violence against women in society. We request his punishment," he said.
"HE HAD NO OTHER CHOICE"
The defendant Yalçıntaş's lawyer, Talha Duman, stated, "We had made the necessary criminal complaints due to the incidents in which my client was the victim. My client was under severe provocation and, as a result of emotional turmoil, sent the messages in question without any other choice. We request his acquittal," he expressed.
