MOTHER OF 8 CHILDREN IN TOTAL
According to ABC News, 34-year-old Jenitar Na'amoana from Brisbane, Queensland, gave birth to quadruplets on July 14.
Na'amoana's doctor, Alexa Bendall, stated in a press release that Na'amoana, now a mother of 8 children, had a "monozygotic quadruplet" pregnancy that was "very high-risk and extremely rare," and that the babies were born at 28 weeks and 4 days.
OCCURS IN ONE IN 15 MILLION
Bendall noted that monozygotic quadruplet pregnancy, resulting from a single fertilized egg splitting into four separate embryos during development, "is estimated to occur in one in 15 million pregnancies," adding, "The quadruplets sharing the same placenta is also unheard of."
Emphasizing that she believes this has never been seen before in Australia, Bendall noted that the babies are healthy but will remain in the hospital for some time.
