In the Kuşadası district of AYDIN, a person was filmed trying to catch with a lasso and pull to the roadside an injured wild boar on the median that had been hit by a car. Bahattin Sürücü, President of the Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOSD), said, "A wild animal experiencing pain and stress due to injury can seriously harm anyone who approaches it."
THE CAR HIT AND FLED
The accident occurred yesterday around 23:30 in Yavansu Neighborhood of Kuşadası district. The car, whose license plate and driver could not be identified, hit an adult wild boar. While the driver drove away, the wild boar, injured in its hind legs, remained at the edge of the median. A person nearby tried to catch the wild boar on the road with a lasso made of rope in order to ensure traffic safety. As the wild boar crawled to the roadside, those moments were recorded with a mobile phone camera.
WARNING NOT TO INTERVENE DIRECTLY
EKODOSD President Bahattin Sürücü issued warnings that injured wild animals should not be directly intervened with. Drawing attention to the fact that wild boars' feeding habits have changed recently, Sürücü said, "In such cases, injured wild animals should not be directly intervened with. Because they are not domestic animals, we cannot know how they will behave. An animal experiencing pain and stress due to injury can seriously harm a person who approaches it. Therefore, the injured animal must definitely be removed safely from where it is by expert teams, under veterinary supervision and sedated if deemed necessary. Unfortunately, such incidents happen frequently. We especially encounter wild boars hit by vehicles on the Kuşadası ring road. Drivers need to reduce their speed and be more careful, especially in areas with traffic signs indicating that wild animals may cross. This precaution is of great importance for both the safety of people's lives and property and the right to life of wild animals," he said.
