After the warnings made by the meteorology days in advance, heavy rain occurred in the Nazilli district around 21:00 yesterday. With the sudden increase in the intensity of the rain, streets, avenues, and underpasses were flooded. The bus station area, Karaçay, Sümer, Dumlupınar, Şirinevler, Yıldıztepe, and Sanayi neighborhoods were among the areas affected by the rainfall. In some neighborhoods, certain houses and businesses were flooded. The railway underpass located at the point where Albay İbrahim Karaoğlanoğlu Street, one of the busiest streets in the city, connects to the Aydın-Denizli highway, as well as 75th Year Boulevard and Alparslan Türkeş Boulevard, were closed to traffic. "I APOLOGIZE TO OUR PEOPLE"Nazilli Mayor Dr. Ertuğrul Tetik, along with Deputy Mayor Selahattin Yılmaz and officials, went to the field to monitor the work on-site. Tetik stated that they were already prepared after the warnings, but there was more rainfall than expected. In his speech, Tetik said: "Today, a very heavy rainfall occurred in our district, which was announced and expected by the meteorology. After the warning made by the meteorology, we, as the municipality, had already made our preparations throughout the district. However, a much heavier rainfall occurred than we expected in our district. Flooding occurred in some areas of our district. The Aydın Metropolitan teams and the teams of Nazilli Municipality intervened immediately in accordance with a joint plan and program for the flooding that occurred. With the timely interventions of our teams, we managed to minimize the potential damages. Our work is still ongoing. Currently, there are no casualties in our district. However, material damages occurred in some of our areas. As Nazilli Municipality, we will do our best to heal the wounds of the damaged areas as soon as possible. For this, we apologize to all our citizens as Nazilli Municipality, and we will do our best to solve the problems. Once again, I wish all the people of Nazilli a speedy recovery."
