After a retaining wall and road collapsed during foundation excavation for a dormitory construction in Rize, leading to the evacuation of residents from two buildings, teams took precautions in the area. The road was closed to traffic, and a tarp was spread over the collapsed section to prevent rainwater from contacting the soil under the asphalt.

During the foundation excavation of a dormitory construction in Rize's İslampaşa District, a retaining wall and the road collapsed. Citizens residing in two buildings were evacuated, and precautions were taken in the area. A citizen who witnessed the collapse said he prevented a potential disaster by warning others.

3 BUILDINGS EVACUATED

The incident occurred yesterday evening near the dormitory construction site in İslampaşa District. While foundation excavation was underway, the retaining wall at the rear and a section of the road in front collapsed. Upon notification, police, fire brigade, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene. To prevent any potential danger, the teams cut off the natural gas supply to the street.

As ground movement continued in the collapsed area, it was decided to evacuate 3 buildings. One of the buildings was determined to be vacant. Citizens from 26 apartments in the two evacuated buildings were placed in public guesthouses to spend the night.

The collapsed road was closed to traffic. To prevent rainwater from contacting the soil beneath the asphalt, a tarp was spread over the collapsed section.

SAW THE COLLAPSE AND WARNED

Şaban Pehlivan, a witness to the incident, said, 'I suspected the vehicles on the road would fall down. As I went down to get my car, I saw the road opening up. There was a child and two elderly women on the road. I called out to them. If I hadn't gone out to the balcony, there would have been a funeral here. I shouted until my voice gave out.'

Hasan Albayrak stated, 'I was not here at the time of the landslide. I came later. People evacuated their homes. Some were taken to relatives, some to teacher guesthouses.'
