Fire department teams in Bangkok's Chatuchak district stated that they received reports of a fire breaking out in a bar around midnight local time. Officials noted that firefighting teams began evacuation efforts for those inside the venue.

Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul told reporters at the scene that at least 27 people had died in the fire according to initial assessments, and many injured had been taken to hospitals. Anutin noted that an investigation into the cause of the fire has been launched.
