Relatives of family members convicted in the case of Narin Güran, who was killed in Diyarbakır, held a press conference at Ankara Ulus Square demanding "justice for Narin." Arguing that mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran, who were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment, are innocent, the family claimed that Nevzat Bahtiyar is the sole perpetrator of the murder and called for a retrial. During the protest, the grandmother, who lamented that her granddaughter was declared a child murderer, collapsed at the square.
Relatives of mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and uncle Salim Güran, who were sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the case of the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır, gathered at Ankara Ulus Square to protest the court decision. Carrying placards reading "Freedom for the Güran Family" and "Murderer Nevzat Bahtiyar," family members argued that the convicted individuals were innocent and demanded a retrial.
In a press statement on behalf of the group, it was claimed that the sole perpetrator of the murder was the other defendant, Nevzat Bahtiyar, who confessed to hiding the body in a creek bed. Family spokespeople asserted that the judicial process should be reviewed from the beginning with the deficiencies addressed for justice to prevail.
GRANDMOTHER COLLAPSES IN SQUARE UNABLE TO BEAR PAIN
Tension and emotional moments peaked during the statement. The grandmother of the murdered Narin Güran reacted by crying out in protest against her daughter (Yüksel Güran) being declared the murderer of her own child. The elderly woman, chanting Kurdish laments and kneeling before a poster with her granddaughter's photo, stirred emotional scenes for those in the square.
Crying out that her daughter and grandchildren were innocent, the elderly woman, unable to bear the immense pain and stress, collapsed in the middle of the press statement.
As nearby family members and press personnel administered first aid to the elderly woman, the protest in the square concluded with calls for justice. The Güran family stated they would continue their legal fight to the end.
