DECISION IN THE CASE REGARDING ASIYE'S INJURY FROM THE PITBULL ATTACK
Some defendants and their lawyers attended the hearing held at the 27th Criminal Court of First Instance. Asiye Ateş's family, her lawyer Ender Kılıç, and the lawyer of the Ministry of Family and Social Services were also present at the hearing. The defendants stated that they reiterated their previous defenses and did not accept the charges against them. The family's lawyer, Ender Kılıç, requested the heaviest penalty for the defendants.
The prosecutor also requested the punishment of the defendants.
THEY WERE SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT
The judge sentenced the defendants Mustafa E, Mustafa Y, Süheyla K, Zeliha C, and Zeynep C to 6 years in prison for the crime of "causing injury with possible intent." The site manager Mustafa E's brother, defendant Mahmut E, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence."
The judge decided that there was no room for a reduction in sentences due to the defendants' behavior during the trial process and the lack of serious remorse for committing the crime.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On December 22, 2021, 4-year-old Asiye Ateş was severely injured in an attack by 2 pitbulls in the Beştepe neighborhood of Şahinbey district. 6 people were detained in connection with the incident.
The two attacking pitbulls were handed over to the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality Animal Shelter and Rehabilitation Center by the Nature Conservation and National Parks Branch Directorate.
The Republic Chief Public Prosecutor's Office prepared an indictment against the defendants, site manager Mustafa E, Mustafa Y, Süheyla K, Zeliha C, and Zeynep C for the crime of "causing injury with possible intent," seeking imprisonment from 2 years and 3 months to 9 years, and against the site manager's brother, defendant Mahmut E, for the crime of "destroying, concealing, or altering evidence," seeking imprisonment from 6 months to 5 years.
