As part of the investigation into the hotel fire that caused the deaths of 76 people in Kartalkaya, Bolu Deputy Mayor Sedat Gülener and Acting Fire Chief Kenan Coşkun have been detained.
In the Grand Kartal Hotel located in the Kartalkaya Ski Resort in Bolu, a fire broke out last night, resulting in the death of 76 citizens and injuries to 51 others. Following the tragedy, a national mourning was declared, and an investigation is ongoing into those responsible for the negligence in the fire.
TWO MORE ARRESTS
So far, 9 people have been detained in connection with the tragedy, including the owner of the establishment. A recent development in the investigation has seen Bolu Deputy Mayor Sedat Gülener and Acting Fire Chief Kenan Coşkun taken into custody.
BOLU MUNICIPALITY ISSUED A PERMIT FOR THE HOTEL'S RESTAURANT 19 DAYS BEFORE THE FIRE
It has emerged that Bolu Municipality prepared a fire safety certificate for the restaurant of the hotel where the tragedy occurred in Kartalkaya, just 19 days before the fire. In the document dated January 2, 2025, prepared in response to an application for a 70 square meter café restaurant to be opened at the Grand Kartal Hotel, it was stated that "it is in accordance with the Regulation on the Fire Protection of Buildings."
NOTABLE STATEMENTS IN THE PREPARED DOCUMENT
In response to the application dated December 24, 2024, from Mudurnu Energy Industry and Trade Inc., the Bolu Municipality Fire Department prepared a document on "Fire Prevention and Protection," stating that the fire safety inspections of the 70 square meter indoor restaurant that the relevant company wanted to open in the Kartalkaya area had been completed.
The document indicated that there was one 6-kilogram dry chemical fire extinguisher, a residual current device, and emergency lighting in the workplace, and it was noted that no LPG-type flammable and explosive materials should be present within the establishment. The document also stated, "Additionally, care must be taken in the use of materials and heat sources that may cause fire."
