Inflation figures for April 2026 have been announced. According to TUIK data, inflation exceeded expectations in April, coming in at 4.18 percent, while the annual rate was 32.37 percent.
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for April.
INFLATION INCREASED BY 4.18 PERCENT IN APRIL
Accordingly, the change in CPI was an increase of 4.18 percent compared to the previous month in April, an increase of 14.64 percent compared to December of the previous year, an increase of 32.37 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and an increase of 32.43 percent based on twelve-month averages.
HIGHEST INCREASE IN HOUSING EXPENDITURES
The annual changes for the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were: an increase of 34.55 percent in food and non-alcoholic beverages, an increase of 35.06 percent in transportation, and an increase of 46.60 percent in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels. The contributions of these main expenditure groups to the annual change were 8.72 percentage points in food and non-alcoholic beverages, 5.66 in transportation, and 6.30 in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.
The monthly changes for the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were: an increase of 3.70 percent in food and non-alcoholic beverages, an increase of 4.29 percent in transportation, and an increase of 7.99 percent in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels. The contributions of these main groups to the monthly change were 0.95 percentage points in food and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.73 in transportation, and 0.90 in housing.
147 ITEMS SAW INCREASES
As of April, out of 174 subclasses covered in the index, the index of 19 subclasses decreased, while the index of 8 subclasses remained unchanged. The index of 147 subclasses increased.
INFLATION EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS
The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce announced that the Wholesale Price Index increased by 3.74 percent monthly and 36.83 percent annually in April 2026, while according to Anadolu Agency data, economists expected the CPI to be in the range of 2.50–3.60 percent monthly and 31.11 percent annually.
MAY RENT INCREASE RATE ANNOUNCED
With the announcement of inflation figures, rent increase rates also became clear. The rent increase rate for homes and workplaces was 32.43 percent. Last month, the increase rate was 32.82 percent.
