BECAME THE FAVORITE OF TOURISTS
Bozcaada, a tourism center reflecting a small town with its atmosphere, featuring old Greek houses of different architecture in its narrow streets, seafood restaurants, Turkey's best-preserved historical castle, pristine coves, clean and icy sea, as well as its proximity to Istanbul making it a preferred destination for many people, became the favorite of tourists during the 3-day holiday as May 1, Labor and Solidarity Day, fell on Friday.
HOTEL OCCUPANCY REACHED 70 PERCENT, NO SEATS LEFT IN CAFES
The occupancy rate in accommodation facilities in Bozcaada, which has an official accommodation capacity of approximately 4,000 people but hosts up to 20,000 daily tourists during summer months with unofficial establishments, reached 70 percent. The occupancy rate in restaurants and cafes hit 100 percent. For tourists unable to find places indoors, businesses set up heaters on the streets and continued to serve. During the day, tourists explored the island's streets and coves, taking photos. In the evening, they experienced the island's local flavors.
“OUR GUESTS CAME IN DROVES”
Restaurant operator Zeki Ayaşlıgil said that the season has started as of May 1, stating, "We can say our season has opened on May 1 now. Despite the cold weather, we thank our guests for preferring us. Bozcaada had no difficulty in promoting itself; our guests came in droves. I believe winter tourism on the island will gradually begin as well."
Accommodation and cafe operator Yasin Özcan stated that the holiday exceeded expectations, saying, "Despite the cold weather and storm, I think it went well. We clearly saw the holiday needs of people living in big cities like Istanbul and Bursa. We thank Gestaş for organizing additional ferry services and the hardworking municipal teams. We wanted to provide a nice holiday for tourists, and I think we succeeded."
