The corruption case against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), in which 414 defendants—including 68 detainees—are being tried, with arrested and suspended IBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu among them, began on its 45th day at the Marmara Closed Prison's Courtroom No. 1 in Silivri, presided over by the Istanbul 40th Heavy Penal Court. In the hearing, businessperson Hüseyin Köksal's lawyer Burak İnce made the first defense statement.
INVESTIGATION INTO GENDARMES
Meanwhile, it was learned that an administrative investigation was launched yesterday against some gendarmerie personnel due to the images that occurred for İmamoğlu's birthday.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On the 44th day of the IMM case, a 55th birthday surprise was prepared for İmamoğlu before the hearing. During the hearing, which included his wife Dilek İmamoğlu, artist Cahit Berkay, and writer Sunay Akın, supporters held signs reading "Happy Birthday." Dilek İmamoğlu's sign read "Happy birthday my love, I love you." Dilek İmamoğlu called out to İmamoğlu as she blew out the candles. The gendarmerie intervened in the applause and celebration.
