An investigation has been launched against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel for his remarks targeting Justice Minister Akın Gürlek during a live broadcast.

CHP leader Özgür Özel answered questions about the current agenda during a live broadcast he attended last night. Speaking for the first time about Afyonkarahisar Mayor Burcu Köksal's decision to switch to the AK Party, Özel also made allegations about Justice Minister Akın Gürlek.

"PUBLICLY DISSEMINATING MISLEADING INFORMATION..."

The Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into Özgür Özel's statements about Akın Gürlek under the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information."

In a written statement from the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the following expressions were included:

"It has been assessed that the public statements made by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel targeting Justice Minister Akın Gürlek on a television channel on May 8, 2026, contain expressions capable of disrupting public order and peace, misleading the public, and not reflecting the truth. Therefore, an investigation has been initiated ex officio by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office under Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code."

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL'S WORDS

Stating that he would hold a press conference about Justice Minister Akın Gürlek in the coming weeks, Özel spoke as follows during the program:

"This minister's deeds... There are 16 deeds in total. We know that Akın Gürlek asked the Ministry, 'Can we delete the deed records?' and received the answer from the Ministry, 'The records have been kept for 250 years, what are you deleting?' There is a communiqué regarding increasing municipal revenues, for which the Ministry takes the sales made in land registry offices and notifies the municipalities. It says, 'If there was a change of ownership and you received no application, don't miss it, call them to process it, increase your revenue.' This deed is also included in the letters sent to various provinces and districts of Turkey according to that communiqué. It is a routine practice to prevent smuggling. Were the relevant municipalities notified about the 16 deeds or not? It is very normal for me to question how a chief prosecutor acquired immovable property worth 465 million TL, which would take 190 years of salary to accumulate.

There will be something much more shocking than the deed dimension, something that will not allow a minister to continue his duty and will shift everything to an entirely different agenda. I am preparing that as well. I have no business with Akın Gürlek personally; it's impossible for me to know or see him. I say this from here, let this be a concern for him. No slander, no false statement, no defamation, no threat—nothing except death can stop me, and I have no intention of dying without changing the government in this country. I say this very clearly."

"ABSOLUTE NULLITY WILL NOT COME"

When asked whether "absolute nullity" regarding CHP would occur, Özgür Özel stated the following:

"It will not come; if it is meant to come, it will be seen—it's free to try. I say this for Erdoğan. It will not come under normal circumstances today. No sensible lawyer would open the door to something where, in a place where the application period is 3 months for individuals, and after the objection periods expire and the certificate of election is issued, it is impossible to annul it; otherwise, election law is overturned. You could have the congresses of your parties annulled by any civil court of first instance in Turkey, which would eliminate legal security for political parties."
