Iran's 7-point conditional challenge to the US!

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei conveyed to Pakistan's Chief of General Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, who went to Tehran to mediate between the US and Iran, that no meetings will be held with Washington until their demands are met. Parliament Speaker Qalibaf also said that the US cannot gain trust without fulfilling the 7 conditions set for the Strait of Hormuz. The conditions include lifting the naval blockade, releasing frozen assets, and lifting sanctions.

Iran has not backed down from the conditions it put forward for returning to the negotiating table with the US, despite Pakistan’s mediation initiative. Tehran also ties the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to Washington’s fulfillment of 7 conditions.

MUNIR HELD HIGH-LEVEL TALKS IN TEHRAN

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Tehran yesterday to mediate between the US and Iran. Munir met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and discussed mediation efforts and regional developments. According to Iranian state media, Pezeshkian said that for negotiations to resume, the US must end its threats and lift sanctions. Pezeshkian blamed the US’s “warmongering” for the crisis in the region.

GALIBAF: THE US CANNOT WIN OUR TRUST UNLESS IT IMPLEMENTS THE 7 CONDITIONS

One of those Munir met was Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. According to Tasnim News Agency, Ghalibaf stated that unless the US fulfills the 7 conditions Iran set last month for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, Washington cannot regain Tehran’s trust.

REZAEI: NO TALKS UNTIL OUR DEMANDS ARE MET

Munir also met with Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. According to Iranian media, Rezaei said that Tehran will not hold talks with Washington until its demands are met. It was reported that Rezaei also said enriched nuclear material will under no circumstances be removed from Iran.

HERE ARE IRAN’S 7 CONDITIONS

Iran did not officially publish the full text of the conditions as a single document. However, Iran’s semi-official newspaper Tehran Times, based on statements by Iranian officials, listed the 7 conditions that Ghalibaf based on the Islamabad Memorandum as follows:

  • The US ending its naval blockade of Iranian ports and tankers
  • Granting a sanctions exemption that allows Iran’s oil sales and shipments
  • Releasing at least 12 billion dollars of Iranian assets frozen abroad
  • Lifting unilateral sanctions imposed after June in the maritime, petrochemical, airline, railway and banking sectors
  • Stopping air and naval attacks and not carrying out new attacks during the implementation process
  • Accepting a safe passage route designated by Iran and Oman instead of the US-led escort operation

In a report by the German news agency dpa, citing Iran’s official news agency IRNA, the conditions also included the lifting of the naval blockade, the removal of restrictions on oil exports, the release of frozen assets, the lifting of all sanctions, and the cessation of military attacks on Iran and its regional allies, including Hezbollah in Lebanon.

7-DAY ROADMAP

According to the Tehran Times, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi proposed on September 25 a 7-day timetable for implementing the conditions. Under the plan, after the US accepts the conditions through Qatar, the first 5 days would involve stopping the clashes, lifting the blockade, granting the oil exemption and releasing the funds. During this period, Iranian and Omani teams would complete technical work in the strait, the Strait of Hormuz would open on the 6th day, and on the 7th day negotiations would begin for a final agreement, including the nuclear program.

“THE PERIOD OF WASTING TIME IS OVER”

Iran’s conditions were conveyed to Washington through Qatari mediation while the Iranian delegation was in the US for the UN General Assembly meetings. US President Donald Trump rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In a speech in parliament on October 4, Ghalibaf stated that the Strait of Hormuz will not open until the 7 conditions are fulfilled and said the US must know that “the period of wasting time and dictating unilateral demands is over.”

The Strait of Hormuz has been largely closed for more than 7 months since the US and Israeli attacks on Iran began on February 28.
