Following the recent US attacks on Iran, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf shared Article 5 of the agreement signed with the US, delivering a sharp message to Washington. "The era of unilateral agreements is over. Either keep your word or pay the price," Ghalibaf said, accusing the US of violating the agreement and further escalating tensions.

The escalating tension between the USA and Iran in recent weeks has taken a new turn. Following the latest US strikes on military targets in Iran, Iranian Parliament Speaker and head of the negotiation delegation, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, made a notable post.

On his X account, Ghalibaf published Article 5 of the 14-point memorandum of understanding signed between the USA and Iran. The article states that after the signing of the agreement, Iran will make necessary arrangements to ensure free and safe passage of commercial vessels between the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman for 60 days.

"THE ERA OF UNILATERAL AGREEMENTS IS OVER"

In his post, Ghalibaf sent harsh messages to the USA, saying, "The era of unilateral agreements is over. We told you; either keep your word or pay the price. Reality is knocking on the door."

Ghalibaf's post was seen as a new indication of Iran's thesis that the USA violated the provisions of the memorandum following its latest attacks.

ACCUSING THE USA OF VIOLATING THE AGREEMENT

The Iranian administration views the USA's recent renewed airstrikes, reinstatement of oil sanctions, and increased military pressure as a clear violation of the memorandum of understanding. Ghalibaf had previously accused Washington of "continually threatening with new attacks," "re-imposing oil sanctions," and "striking southern Iran."

TENSION IN THE REGION RISES

Ghalibaf's statement came after the USA struck approximately 140 military targets in Iran this week, and Iran launched missile and drone attacks on US bases in Qatar, Bahrain, the UAE, and Kuwait. The reciprocal strikes have strengthened assessments that the previously signed ceasefire and memorandum process is effectively suspended.

MEMORANDUM DEBATE DEEPENS

While Iran argues that full implementation of the memorandum's articles is necessary to move toward a final agreement, the USA states that it considers its military operations within the scope of self-defense due to Iran's attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The mutual accusations between the parties increase uncertainty about the future of the diplomatic process.
