The U.S. Department of State has approved an approximately $1 billion sale of precision-guided missile systems to Israel, with an "immediate" designation. The Trump administration invoked a special clause in the Arms Export Control Act, bypassing congressional approval to proceed. The package also includes sales of Patriot and air defense systems to Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, totaling over $7.5 billion.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has approved potential weapon sales to Israel and several other Middle Eastern countries.
IMMEDIATE WEAPON SALE TO ISRAEL
In a statement from the US Department of State, it was reported that the Department approved the potential sale to Israel of $992.4 million worth of Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS) and related equipment.
The statement indicated that the primary contractor for the sale would be "BAE Systems," located in the US state of New Hampshire.
The statement noted that "an emergency exists requiring the immediate sale" to Israel, and that for this sale, Congress's review requirements under Section 36(b) of the Arms Export Control Act were waived.
