Israel approved a multibillion-dollar deal to purchase F-35 and F-15IA fighter jets from the US. The agreement includes the establishment of two new combat squadrons. Officials stated that this step aims to maintain Israel's air superiority for many years and strengthen the military's operational capabilities. The number of F-35s already in Israel's inventory is expected to increase with this purchase.
Israel has approved a multibillion-dollar deal to acquire two new fleets of combat aircraft from the US. Under the agreement, it was announced that Lockheed Martin-produced F-35 stealth jets and Boeing-produced F-15IA fighter jets will be supplied.
“WE WILL GUARANTEE AIR SUPERIORITY”
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the purchase is part of the country's long-term military strategy, saying, “This plan aims to maintain Israel's air superiority for decades to come.”
“OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY EVERYWHERE”
Katz emphasized that the deal is central to the “Shield of Israel” plan, expressing that the goal is to ensure the military has the power to operate anytime and anywhere.
ALREADY USING F-35
The F-35, considered among the world's most advanced combat aircraft, is known as a joint project of the US and its allies. Israel already has dozens of these jets in its inventory.
WHAT IS THIS PREPARATION FOR?
According to experts, this step is seen as a move to increase deterrence and strengthen military capacity amid rising tensions in the region, rather than a direct preparation for war. Israel aims to secure its air power in the long term, particularly due to the perceived threat from Iran and its surroundings.
