The gradual natural gas tariff launched for residences in April will negatively affect 40 percent of approximately 23 million subscribers as consumption increases in the winter months. Industry representatives warned that the Tier-2 tariff, where the price per cubic meter rises to 26.13 TL due to exceeding the limit, will significantly increase bills starting from November and December, especially in sites heated by central systems and in coastal provinces.
It is anticipated that the tiered natural gas tariff, which came into effect for residences in April, will negatively affect approximately 40 percent of subscribers as consumption increases during the winter months. Industry representatives warned that there will be serious increases in bills with the cold weather, especially in buildings heated by central systems and cities on the sea coast.
COULD AFFECT 40 PERCENT OF 23 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS
Under the new system implemented in April, separate consumption limits were determined for each province, and residential subscribers were divided into two groups based on consumption amount. Although it was initially announced that only 12 percent of subscribers would be affected, the approach of winter conditions changed the picture. Drawing attention to approximately 23 million residential subscribers in Turkey, industry sources emphasized that during the winter period when heating needs peak, the tiered tariff will directly affect between 35 and 40 percent of subscribers.
TIER-2 PRICE IS 26.13 TL PER CUBIC METER!
The applied tiered pricing model works as follows:
- Tier-1 Subscribers: They pay 16.23 TL per cubic meter, including taxes and the System Usage Fee (SUF).
- Tier-2 Subscribers: If they exceed the determined consumption limit, they are charged at 26.13 TL per cubic meter.
PAY ATTENTION TO NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER
Industry representatives warned that bills will multiply, especially in November and December, as the weather gets colder, and drew attention to the following points:
- Central System Complexes: In large complexes with many apartments and common boilers, bills are calculated directly from the higher Tier-2 tariff due to consumption limits being easily exceeded. When the total amount is divided by the number of apartments, even households that could stay below the limit for individual use face high bills.
- Cities on the Sea Coast: It is considered that in case of exceeding regional limits, subscribers living in coastal provinces will also be affected by the Tier-2 crisis and will have to use high-priced natural gas.
