This rare cloud formation, surprising observers with its wavy and dark appearance, became a center of interest with its structure resembling a stormy sea. It was stated that undulatus asperatus clouds, which form as a result of unstable air movements in the atmosphere, are rarely seen in the world.

Undulatus asperatus clouds that appeared in Çanakkale created an extraordinary scenery in the sky. In the photograph, the cloud layer is seen advancing in wave-like curls, covering a wide area with its gray and dense structure.

Especially the layered structure near the horizon line created an image of an approaching storm. In the images provided by Havaforum, the harsh and wrinkled appearance at the bottom of the clouds turned the sky into a wavy sea surface.

WHAT IS UNDULATUS ASPERATUS?

Asperitas, formerly known as "undulatus asperatus," is known as a very rare cloud formation. This cloud type, officially defined by the World Meteorological Organization, draws attention with its wavy and irregular appearance in the sky.

Derived from the Latin term meaning "rough" and "wavy," these clouds mostly form as a result of unstable air movements in the atmosphere. According to experts, undulatus asperatus clouds are usually seen before or after a storm, but they do not always mean precipitation. Due to its appearance, it is considered among the most striking cloud formations in the world.
