Following the spring rains that were effective in Kastamonu, a 'morel mushroom' abundance is being experienced in the forests. Citizens who want to collect this rare mushroom, which finds buyers between 1,000 TL and 1,500 TL per kilogram, head to the forests with the first light of morning.
Following the heavy spring rains in Kastamonu, forests have seen an abundance of morel mushrooms. Citizens are heading to forested areas near city centers to collect the mushrooms, which sell for between 1,000 and 1,500 lira per kilogram.
THEY COLLECTED 6 KILOS IN ONE TRIP
Many citizens, turning this abundance into a source of income, sell the mushrooms they gather from forests either at markets or to companies that purchase mushrooms. In the Tosya district of Kastamonu, two citizens named Hüseyin Tümtürk and İbrahim Büyükacar, who went to a forested area, collected approximately 6 kilograms of mushrooms in a short time. Stating that they collected the mushrooms for eating, the citizens said that anyone who puts in effort can easily find mushrooms, especially in areas hit by the morning sun.
"THERE IS EFFORT, IT SHOULDN'T BE MEASURED BY MONEY"
İbrahim Büyükacar, who stated that they collected 6 kilograms of mushrooms in hours, provided information about the mushrooms' characteristics, saying, "The color of the collected mushrooms can vary between black and white depending on the pine tree under which they grow. Even if the color is different, both are morel mushrooms. Today we got lucky; it's a bit of a luck issue. If you search in the right places and have luck, you can find them. They grow more densely during morning sunlight. They are more abundant in burned forest areas. Fortunately, there have been no forest fires in our district. You don't need forest fires to find mushrooms. This is proof of that. There are about 6 kilograms of mushrooms here. We shouldn't measure it by its value; there is effort here, it shouldn't be measured by money. We will eat them."
