It soared to the sky, crashed in the stock market! A heavy blow to Tesla

20.10.2026 13:51

Although Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, introduced its new Roadster model, which draws attention with its ability to fly, it suffered a major loss on the stock market. The company's shares lost 16.44 percent in value over the past year, falling to $366.82, while its credit risk premium reached its highest level since May 2023. Eyes turned to Tesla's financial results to be announced on October 21.

US-based electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla attracted attention in the technology world with the unveiling of its next-generation Roadster model, but failed to receive the expected response in financial markets. The company's shares lost 16.44 percent in value over the past year, falling to $366.82. Tesla's credit risk premium rising to its highest level since May 2023 also increased investors' concerns about the company's financial outlook.

TESLA SHARES LOSE MORE THAN 16 PERCENT

Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, has faced cost pressure created by competition in the electric vehicle market and investments in new technology.

The company's share price fell 16.44 percent over the past 12 months to $366.82. During this period, the per-share loss reached $72.15.

Tesla shares, which declined under selling pressure in the first months of the year, recovered in May and June and rose to around $440. However, selling that accelerated again in July pushed the share price below $300 in early August.

Although purchases in September and October lifted the shares back into the $350-380 range, the annual losses could not be recovered.

CREDIT RISK AT THREE-YEAR PEAK

Not only Tesla's stock market performance but also its indicators related to borrowing risk drew attention.

The company's five-year credit default swap (CDS) rose to 188.1 basis points, reaching its highest level since May 2023.

The rise in the CDS indicator shows that investors are bearing higher costs to protect themselves against the risk of the company being unable to repay its debts.

ROBOTAXI AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE INVESTMENTS UNDER SCRUTINY

Tesla's move beyond automobile production toward robotaxis, the humanoid robot Optimus and artificial intelligence technologies lies at the center of the company's long-term growth plans.

However, when these investments will generate regular revenue remains uncertain. High investment spending and the fact that the contribution of new projects to profitability has not yet become clear are increasing debates about the company's market value.

Analysts point out that Tesla's current financial performance, as well as its future growth potential, has become decisive for investors.

FLYING ROADSTER UNVEILED, 2028 TARGETED FOR PRODUCTION

Amid continued financial pressures, Tesla drew attention again by unveiling its next-generation Roadster model.

The car displayed at the event in Texas took off from a ramp and jumped over other Tesla models thanks to its compressed-air system. The vehicle's ability to maneuver in the air also stood out during the demonstration.

The new Roadster is planned to use 10 separate thruster systems, especially in its high-performance versions. Elon Musk announced that mass production of the car is targeted to begin in 2028.

However, it is not yet clear when the commercial revenue generated by the new model will be reflected in the company's financial statements.

EYES ON THE EARNINGS REPORT TO BE RELEASED ON WEDNESDAY

Tesla is expected to announce its third-quarter financial results after US markets close on Wednesday, October 21.

Investors will particularly monitor vehicle deliveries, the profit margin from car sales and the financial results of new technology investments.

The earnings report the company will announce will be an important test of investors' future expectations following the decline in Tesla shares.
