The Çemçe-Madur region on the border between Kars and Ağrı, cleared of terrorism, has begun to host nature sports. Mountaineers from Kars climbed to the summit of Mount Mamakar, which is 3,022 meters high within the borders of the Kağızman district, and planted a Turkish flag and a promotional sign bearing the mountain’s name.

The Çemçe-Madur region, which once made headlines with terrorist incidents, now stands out for its natural beauties and mountaineering activities. The mountains cleared of terrorism as a result of the security forces' counterterrorism efforts have become a new route for nature lovers and professional mountaineers.

FLAG AND SIGN ERECTED AT THE SUMMIT

Nature lovers who came together under the leadership of the Kars Provincial Mountaineering Representation carried out a summit climb to Mount Mamakar, 3,022 meters high, within the borders of Kağızman district. At the event attended by mountaineers from Kars and Kağızman, a Turkish flag and a promotional sign bearing the mountain's name were placed at the summit.

“WE WANT TO WAVE OUR FLAG ON HIGH SUMMITS”

Harun Çalkın, Kars Provincial Representative of Zirve Mountaineering, said that the Çemçe-Madur region has significant potential in terms of mountaineering. Çalkın said, “Our aim is to promote our region and wave our flag on high summits. Because we love our Kars and Kağızman very much. Kağızman is a wonderful newly discovered area for us and for mountaineers. There are wonderful areas for professional mountaineering, climbing, and nature walks.”

PROMOTIONAL SIGNS WILL ALSO BE PREPARED FOR OTHER MOUNTAINS

Harun Ağdaş, President of Kağızman Mountaineering and Hiking Leader, stated that they support the work and that they have started work to prepare promotional signs for many mountains in the region. Ağdaş said, “It was a very emotional and meaningful activity for me. Because I am from Kağızman. Today, women, men, the elderly, and the young are walking on these mountains, and we show their beauties to everyone. Promoting our province to our country makes us very happy.”
