Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's proposal for a 60-day ceasefire to hold elections. Peskov, saying that Russia wants a permanent peace instead of a temporary ceasefire, claimed that Ukraine wanted the ceasefire "to gather its forces and continue the war." Peskov also stated that Putin was ready not to give an order to attack Ukraine on election day.
Russia responded negatively to Ukraine’s call for a 60-day complete ceasefire for elections. The Kremlin claimed that the Kyiv government does not want to hold elections.
ZELENSKY: GIVE US TWO MONTHS
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a statement yesterday that they are ready to organize elections if a ceasefire with Russia is achieved. Zelensky had said, “Inform Russian President Vladimir Putin, give us two months. Provide a 60-day complete ceasefire; we will hold elections.”
“WE HAVE STATED MANY TIMES THAT WE DO NOT WANT A CEASEFIRE”
Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, speaking to reporters, rejected Zelensky’s proposal. Noting that Russia wants a permanent peace agreement instead of a temporary ceasefire, Peskov said, “At the Kremlin, both President Putin and officials at other levels have repeatedly stated that we do not want a ceasefire. We want a long-term peace and we are ready to do everything possible to achieve it.”
“THEY WANT IT TO HEAL THEIR WOUNDS” CLAIM
Peskov, claiming that the Kyiv government does not want to hold elections, said, “They do not want to hold elections in Kyiv. This is completely clear.” Peskov said, “Ukraine wants the 60-day ceasefire not for elections; but to gather its forces, heal its wounds and continue the war.”
NON-ATTACK PROPOSAL FOR ELECTION DAY
Peskov added that Russian President Putin is also ready not to order any attack on the country on election day in Ukraine.
