A bear cub, initially mistaken for a "polar bear cub" while found trapped among rocks at the point where the Sakarya River meets the Black Sea in the Karasu district of Sakarya, caused astonishment in the region. It was revealed that the animal stuck in the rocks was a deceased bear cub.
Citizens who noticed a white, motionless creature among the rocks at the point where the Sakarya River flows into the Black Sea captured the situation with their mobile phone cameras.
MISTAKEN FOR A POLAR BEAR
Photos shared on social media platforms in a short time led to claims that a "polar bear cub was found on the Black Sea coast" due to the creature's physical structure and color.
THE TRUTH QUICKLY EMERGED
Following the rapidly spreading image, evaluations from the region revealed that the claims were unfounded. The animal stuck in the rocks was identified as a bear cub living in the Sakarya River basin. It was determined that the deceased cub, having been in water for a long time, had lost its fur, especially on its lower part, and its skin had turned white due to the water, taking on a different appearance.
DRAGGED FOR KILOMETERS
Investigations assessed that the bear cub, which died in its natural habitat in the river basin, was carried away by the strong current of the Sakarya River, dragged for kilometers, and became stuck among the rocks at the Yenimahalle Feneri area where the river flows into the Black Sea.
