Italian-Born Conservationist Shot, İnjured İn Kenya

Famous Italian Conservationist Kuki Gallman was shot and injured at her ranch in central Kenya on Sunday, said Kenyan police.



According to the police, the 73-year old conservationist and author was injured by illegal grazers. Gallman owns Laikipia conservancy in central Kenya.



Speaking to Anadolu Agency on phone, Laikipia area police chief Ezekiel Chepkwonyi said that Gallman had been taken to a military hospital in Nanyuki town in central Kenya.



"We are currently pursuing some of the illegal grazers that took part in the attack injuring her in the stomach, [and] officers managed to engage them in a gunfight and we believe some of them might be injured," Chepkwonyi said.



In March, ex-British army officer Tristan Voorspuy was shot by pastoralists who had invaded his ranch in search of pasture for their animals due to the ongoing drought.



More than 400 herders were arrested after Voorspuy's killing. -
