IZMIR METROPOLITAN WILL LAY OFF 900 EMPLOYEES
It has been learned that İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will lay off 800 people from İZDOĞA and 100 from İZULAŞ. In a letter sent to the Belediye-İş union, it was stated that no agreement could be reached regarding the reduction of the number of workers during discussions with the union, and therefore this decision was made.
STRIKE AT IZMIR METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY
After no results emerged from collective bargaining negotiations involving approximately 23,000 workers between İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and Genel-İş, the union initiated a strike on the night of May 28. The strike of İZENERJİ, İZELMAN, and EGEŞEHİR A.Ş workers ended with the acceptance of a proposal described by İzBB President Cemil Tugay as the "final offer." The 30% raise and 19% inflation difference proposed by İzBB bureaucrats and communicated to the union by SODEM-SEN were accepted. In this context, the workers had granted the authority to sign the collective agreement to the branch managers of the union. It was noted that the lowest salary at İzmir Metropolitan Municipality was 66,000 TL.
