Journalist-writer and member of the Cumhuriyet Foundation Board of Directors, Şükran Soner, passed away at the age of 80 in the hospital where she had been receiving treatment for some time. Having started her professional career as a reporter at Cumhuriyet newspaper in 1966, Soner worked on labor, education, and social rights issues and also served as the President of the Turkish Journalists' Union.

WHO IS ŞÜKRAN SONER?Born in 1946 in Kosovo, Soner began her journalism career in 1966 as a reporter at Cumhuriyet newspaper. Throughout her professional life, she wrote numerous news articles and columns, primarily on labor, as well as education and social rights. She worked in the founding and management of social organizations such as the Human Rights Association, the Ada Friends Association, and the Economic and Social History Foundation of Turkey.
In addition to her memberships in the Turkish Journalists' Association and the Turkish Journalists' Union among professional organizations, Soner also served in the governing bodies of the TGS. In the 1970s, she served as the TGS General Education Secretary for two terms. She was re-elected to the board at the 1999 General Assembly, becoming the TGS Vice President, and was elected TGS President at the 2001 General Assembly.
