Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek responded to the allegations of 23 properties brought up by Murat Ağırel with a title deed inquiry screen he obtained from E-Devlet. Stating that there are no title deeds registered in his name, Gökçek announced that he would file a criminal complaint, while Ağırel responded by stating that the information is based on the official case file from 2019, saying, "Don't burden the prosecutor's office."
Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek, against whom an investigation was launched over the claim that "unregistered money was transferred to companies abroad," responded to journalist Murat Ağırel's list of 23 properties he claimed belonged to Gökçek with a title deed inquiry screen he obtained through the E-Government system. Stating that there were no title deeds registered in his name and announcing he would file a criminal complaint, Gökçek received a response from Ağırel: "The information I shared is based on the official case file from 2019."
THE LIST OF 23 PROPERTIES THAT CAME TO THE AGENDA ON LIVE BROADCAST
Journalist Murat Ağırel brought up striking claims about Melih Gökçek's assets during a program broadcast on Onlar TV on the evening of August 31. In the table reflected on the screen during the broadcast, 23 separate properties allegedly belonging to Gökçek were listed.
The list included residences, plots, fields, and independent units located in Ankara's Çankaya (Dikmen, Aziziye, Güzeltepe), Pursaklar, Gölbaşı (Hacılar, Lodum), and Etimesgut (Şirkel, Yeşilyurt) districts. One of the most striking details in the table was three massive properties, measuring 46,400, 28,100, and 49,200 square meters, said to be located in the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa.
GÖKÇEK'S E-GOVERNMENT-PROVEN DENIAL AND CRIMINAL COMPLAINT ULTIMATUM
After the claims resonated widely in the public, Melih Gökçek denied the allegations with an official document via his X (formerly Twitter) account. Sharing the screenshot of his "Title Deed Information Inquiry" screen from the E-Government portal, Gökçek's page showed the system giving the following warning:
"In the records of Land Registry Directorates transferred to the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre Information System, no record matching your ID number was found."
Arguing that all the asset items mentioned in the broadcast were untrue, Gökçek made the following statement:
"In the title deed and cadastre inquiry conducted via E-Government, it is clearly seen that there is no title deed record matching my ID number. I am also sharing the relevant official inquiry document with the public. Due to these false claims and accusations, I respectfully announce to the public that I will file the necessary criminal complaints with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office as of tomorrow morning."
DOCUMENTED RESPONSE FROM MURAT AĞIREL: DON'T BOTHER THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
Immediately after Gökçek categorically rejected the claims and announced he would resort to legal action, Murat Ağırel's counter-move was not delayed. Ağırel argued that the documents he presented were not an independent claim but official judicial records.
Addressing Gökçek via his social media account, Ağırel explained the source of his data and said:
"Mr. Melih Gökçek, don't bother the prosecutor's office; they have more important matters ahead. The information I shared is based on official records in the case file of Lawsuit No. 2019/236. There is no confidentiality in the file. The information is public. Moreover, you know very well that this is the case."
