A landslide at a marble quarry on Marmara Island in Balıkesir resulted in the death of one worker, and search and rescue efforts are ongoing. Footage captured by security cameras recorded the moment of the landslide.
The moment of the landslide that occurred in the marble quarry in the Marmara district of Balıkesir was captured by security cameras.
LANDSLIDE IN THE MARBLE QUARRY
The incident occurred around 18:10 in the Saraylar neighborhood at the marble quarry owned by Ediz Ö. A search and rescue operation was initiated with heavy machinery to reach the workers trapped under the rubble. Teams from the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Marmara Group Directorate were also dispatched to the scene, and coordination was established with AFAD and UMKE teams for access to the island.
1 WORKER LOST HIS LIFE
It was determined that the workers trapped under the marble blocks were Mustafa Dak and Ahmet Özmen, and Özmen's body was recovered. Search efforts for Dak are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the footage captured by security cameras showed that the marble blocks suddenly slid from their place and rolled down rapidly.
