Liverpool Beat 10-Man Atletico Madrid In 5-Goal Thriller

Reds earn 3 2 victory in Champions League group match; Griezmann nets 2 goals but sent off in 2nd half.

Liverpool clinched a 3-2 win against a 10-man Atletico Madrid in a UEFA Champions League match Tuesday evening.

The Reds' Egyptian star Mohamed Salah scored the opener in the eighth minute at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.

Salah became the first Liverpool player to score in nine consecutive matches.

Five minutes later, Liverpool doubled the lead as Naby Keita scored a volley.

But Atletico Madrid's French star Antoine Griezmann netted two goals in the 20th and 34th minutes to level the match.

In the 52nd minute, Atletico Madrid were down to 10 men as Griezmann was directly sent off after a high foot challenge on Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino.

Then in the 76th minute, Atletico Madrid conceded a penalty as the Spanish club's defender Mario Hermoso fouled Liverpool's Diogo Jota in the area.

Salah scored the penalty for Liverpool, sending Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak the wrong way, and Liverpool secured the 3-2 win.

Group B leaders Liverpool are marching on in a flawless way as the English club has won all three of their matches.

Second place Atletico Madrid and third place Porto have four points each.

AC Milan are at the bottom of Group B without any points.

Ajax hammer Dortmund

Meanwhile, in a Group C match, Dutch club Ajax whipped Germany's Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at home.

Dortmund star Marco Reus scored an own goal to give Ajax an early lead at Johan Cruijff ArenA in Amsterdam.

Then Daley Blind, Antony and Sebastien Haller scored for Ajax to secure the 4-0 victory.

Ajax top Group C with nine points. Dortmund have six to chase the leaders.

Third-place Sporting racked up three points, beating Besiktas 4-1 earlier Tuesday.

Besiktas are last as the Istanbul club lost all three of their matches in the group.
