Netflix, one of the world's leading digital streaming platforms, has decided to lay off approximately 1,000 employees. The decision, which covers about 6% of the company's total workforce, was reportedly made in line with goals to increase viewer interest and use resources more efficiently.
LARGEST LAYOFF WAVE SINCE 2022
Netflix's layoff decision is considered the largest workforce reduction carried out at the company since 2022. Various departments, especially product, technology, legal, and human resources, are expected to be affected by the decision.
In a message sent to employees by the company's co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos, it was emphasized that resources and personnel needed to be directed to priority areas.
TRYING TO INCREASE VIEWER INTEREST
Netflix, which has approximately 325 million global subscribers, is turning to different content types to ensure viewers spend more time on the platform. In addition to traditional series and film content, the company aims to increase content diversity with video podcasts and live broadcasts.
On the other hand, assessments that viewer numbers in some of the platform's popular productions have declined significantly as seasons progress are increasing debates about maintaining viewer loyalty.
THE DECLINE IN SHARES DREW ATTENTION
Netflix's layoff decision came at a time when the company's shares lost about 40% of their value over the past year. Following the layoff news, shares saw a rise of about 1%.
Company management stated that despite the workforce reduction, it would continue investing in high-impact areas and was progressing toward achieving its annual financial targets.
However, there is not yet a comprehensive public statement regarding Netflix's layoff decision.
