Thomas Markle, the 82-year-old father of Meghan Markle, daughter-in-law of the British Royal Family, was arrested in the US as part of an investigation into allegations that he possessed child sexual abuse material. It was reported that 78 suspected materials were seized from Markle's storage unit, and the court allowed the elderly man, who has not seen his daughter for years, to return to the care home under electronic monitoring.

Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, who is married to Prince Harry, the younger son of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, has faced a child abuse investigation in the US. It was reported that Markle, 82, who was detained by federal agents in Florida on November 6, was accused of possessing material involving the sexual abuse of children. Following his arrest, Markle was brought before a court and a decision was made for electronic monitoring.

78 SUSPICIOUS MATERIALS FOUND IN HIS STORAGE UNIT

According to a statement by the US Department of Justice, a search was carried out at a storage unit that Thomas Markle had rented near Los Angeles for about 20 years. During the federal teams' examinations, a total of 78 materials assessed to be linked to child abuse were seized. It was stated that the materials in question have been taken under examination within the scope of the investigation, while it was emphasized that the charges against Markle have not yet been finalized by a judicial decision.

HE WAS TAKEN IN HANDCUFFS AND IN A WHEELCHAIR

It was reported that Thomas Markle, who was detained at the elderly care facility where he was staying in Florida, was taken by ambulance in handcuffs and in a wheelchair accompanied by federal agents. Markle, who was brought before the court, was allowed to return to the elderly care facility on the condition that he be kept under electronic monitoring. The court also requested that the 82-year-old Markle undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine whether he is able to understand the trial process.

A FAMILY TIP-OFF EMERGED BEHIND THE INVESTIGATION

It was stated that the allegations against Thomas Markle date back to 2019. In a statement on October 24, the London Metropolitan Police announced that they had received a letter that year containing allegations of sexual abuse against children outside the UK but had not informed the police units of other countries. It was reported that the investigation was launched after Meghan Markle's half-sibling reported finding child abuse materials at their father's home in the Philippines. Thomas Markle had previously denied the allegations against him.

MEGHAN MARKLE'S WORDS DREW ATTENTION AGAIN

Statements previously made by Meghan Markle, who has not seen her father for a long time, also drew attention again after the latest development. The Duchess of Sussex had described the allegations about her father as "worrying and disturbing" and said she had distanced herself from her father to protect her children.

In her statement on the matter, Meghan Markle said, "I hope it can now be understood that, despite the distortion of some media publications over the years, there was only one reason for the distance between my father and me and my choice not to allow him to contact our children: to protect them."

RELATIONS WITH THE ROYAL FAMILY WERE ALREADY TENSE

Meghan Markle, who married Prince Harry in 2018, left royal duties with her husband in 2020 and settled in the US. The couple's statements about the Royal Family had caused tension in their relations with King Charles III and Prince William. Meghan Markle's long-standing distant relationship with her father drew attention again with the latest accusations against Thomas Markle.
